Someone told me years ago to remember all the good times while I still could, because one day they would drift away like a breeze passing through a cool rainy night. At the time, I did not understand those words, but now I do. Nothing stays the same. Nothing waits for us. Seasons change, people change, and life keeps moving whether we are ready for it or not because sadly, those days are gone.
Love once burned bright like the morning sun, but even the strongest flames eventually fade into ashes. Laughter that once filled rooms with joy slowly becomes silence. Friendships that once felt unbreakable slowly drift apart like fallen leaves carried away by the wind. Even family gatherings, warm hugs, and familiar voices slowly become memories hidden deep within the corners of our minds because those days are gone.
The rain that once sounded peaceful against the windows now feels like a reminder of time slipping away. The trees that once stood full of life begin to lose their leaves one by one, just as we lose moments, people, and pieces of ourselves throughout the years. The passing breeze no longer feels the same because it carries whispers of yesterday, reminding us that nothing can stay forever.
Memories are strange things. They can bring warmth to the heart while breaking it at the very same time. A song, a scent, or a familiar place can suddenly bring us back to moments we thought we had forgotten. We remember smiles that are no longer seen, laughter that can no longer be heard, and embraces we would give anything to feel one more time because those days are gone.
As we grow older, we begin to realize that life is nothing more than a collection of passing moments. Some beautiful, some painful, and some we wish had never ended. We spend so much of our lives believing there will always be more time, more conversations, more chances, and more tomorrows. But time does not ask for permission before it moves on.
One day, our own journey will come to an end as well. The stories we told, the tears we cried, the love we gave, and the lives we touched will become memories to someone else. And perhaps, if we were fortunate enough to love deeply and live sincerely, others will remember us the same way we remember those we have lost.
In the end, we are no different than the falling rain, a passing breeze, a speck of sand, or a single leaf drifting quietly to the ground. Here for only a moment before disappearing into time because sadly, those days are gone.
